Active Aperitif: Albania vs Greece, what do they have in common?

35,00€What do Albanian and Greek cuisine (but also Turkish cuisine and, passing through the Balkans, also Middle Eastern cuisine) have in common? The answer is simple… the Ottoman Empire!
During the evening, held by chef Alessio (Italian on his identity card but with Albania in his heart) we will prepare together some symbolic dishes that tell a story of domination and cultural exchanges that give rise to dishes that also have names and small interpretations different, they also have undeniable common traits.
We will start with Sal Kosi , a creamy soup made with yogurt and eggs, similar to typical preparations of Turkish and Balkan cuisine. We will continue with Qofte , spiced meatballs which find their equivalents in Turkish "kebabs" and "köfte" present in various Balkan and Middle Eastern cuisines. Byrek , a savory layered pie of phyllo dough filled with spinach and cheese, has a direct counterpart in the Greek spanakopita, but also in other versions present in Turkey, Macedonia and Serbia . Finally, we will taste Baklava , an iconic dessert made with phyllo dough, honey and dried fruit, loved and prepared throughout the area that was once part of the Ottoman Empire, from Turkey to Egypt.
The last surprise... a taste of Gin&Tonic with an unexpected Albanian Botanical Gin!
This lesson is not only a journey into taste, but also an opportunity to discover how history and Ottoman domination have influenced and unified the cuisines of many countries, from the Mediterranean to the Middle East.
