What is the ingredient that transforms a group of people who work in the same company into a cohesive and close-knit team ? Trust ! how capable or talented they are, they will never reach their full potential if trust and collaboration are not present. On the contrary, when we trust each other, the group can achieve truly significant goals both for the well-being of the company and for themselves.

The Treccani dictionary defines the word “trust” as: “Attitude, towards others or towards oneself, which results from a positive evaluation of facts, circumstances, relationships, whereby one trusts in others or one's own possibilities, and which generally produces a feeling of safety and tranquility" . But how is this feeling that regulates every relationship, including the working one, created? Through team building activities.

Below we have put together the basic steps:

1. Words and actions

One of the key pillars of a Manager, Leader or Company Manager, to create trust and collaboration among employees, is to follow his words with concrete actions . Actions are one of the most important means you have at your disposal to develop a deep bond, as well as emotional credibility.

Trust is earned, in fact, by setting an example and keeping promises ; don't forget that even the best speech is empty if not supported by actions and every unfulfilled commitment makes people less inclined to trust you.

2. Share information

It often happens that in companies information is not shared with all team members: this practice is perceived by employees as little or no consideration towards them and their work. Organizing meetings , in which each employee is not only updated on the programs/objectives but also has the opportunity to talk about his progress and/or the difficulties he is encountering and discuss them freely with others, encourages a collaborative climate .

3. Develop relationships

Sharing the same company spaces, even for many hours a day, does not develop relationships between employees, on the contrary it probably strengthens individualism.

To create bonds that lead to trust and collaboration with others, it is necessary to leave the workplace and organize Team Building activities , in which roles and hierarchies no longer exist but only personal skills put at the service of the group to achieve a common goal through game.

4. Create a supportive environment

A supportive environment stimulates and encourages employees to be innovative and come up with new ideas. To create it you need to actively listen to them but above all show understanding even when mistakes have been made. Typically, however, after the mistake has occurred, the finger is pointed at the culprit, generating an unpleasant working atmosphere that decreases team morale and makes it less productive. Rather, mistakes should be transformed into something constructive, for example by asking questions such as:

  • What can we do to resolve what has happened?
  • How can we prevent this from happening again?

5. Have lunch together

Another way to improve team cohesion is to spend lunch breaks together. They are unifying moments that help reduce barriers between people. Alternatively, if the team usually eats at their own workstation and brings meals from home, a common table can be set up where they can have lunch together, just as happens with the family .

Creating trust and collaboration among employees is a long process, which requires a radical change in organizational culture; however, without these pillars there can be no innovation, creative thinking and productivity.
